Why our faculty?

Faculty of Philology ENU. L.N. Gumilyov is a structural subdivision of the university, which was created on the basis of the reorganization of the History and Philology Faculty according to the order of the rector No. 33  of February 10, 2009.Over the years, has intensified its focus on providing three types of activities: educational, scientific and innovative in their close relationship.

The Faculty of Philology carries out continuous professional training of specialists in the field of philology, intercultural communication, integrates educational, scientific and practical activities in philology, implements the educational process using modern effective teaching technologies, and conducts active work in the field of international cooperation.

At present, the faculty of philology includes ten following departments:

• Department of Kazakh linguistics

• Department of Kazakh Literature

• Department of Russian Philology

• Department of Translation Theory and Practice

• Department of Foreign Philology

• Department of Theory and Practice of Foreign Languages

• Department of Chinese Philology

• Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics

• Department of practical Kazakh language

•  Department of Foreign Languages 

Human resources

At the Faculty of Philology, the educational process is carried out by a highly qualified teaching staff, currently (2019-2020) there are 242 staff, including 33 Doctors of Science, 88 candidates, 15 PhD. Nevertheless, despite the fact that in some departments scientific degree reaches 100% (departments of Kazakh literature, Kazakh linguistics, etc.), the overall degree in the department is only 52%.

The international cooperation

 

In the light of further development at the university and at the faculty with the Bologna process, international cooperation is aimed at developing business ties and exchanges with leading faculties (schools) and professional associations in the field of humanities, media, public relations and sociology of mass communications. Priority in this area is given to universities willing to cooperate, including the development and implementation of joint doctoral programs (University of Granada (Spain), University of London (United Kingdom), University of Wisconsin-Madison, (USA), University of Genoa (Italy), etc.) Academic Exchange Programs are also carried out together with University of Ostrava (Poland), Shanghai University (China), University of Xinjiang (China), Russian Peoples Friendship University, Moscow State Linguistic University, St. Petersburg -State University, Institute Goethe et al.
