I came to you in search of myself …

85th anniversary of the birth of Zh.Nazhimedenov

It is not easy to fit deep impressions into a small article form for a website. These impressions are from the trip to the homeland of the great poet, prose writer, composer, and translator Zhumeken Nazhimedenov. The young poet was 21 years old when he wrote the lyrics of the song "My Kazakhstan". Now this song is the anthem of our country. And it is natural that our republic celebrated the 85th anniversary of Zhumeken on November 28. Great celebrations were also held in the poet's homeland. Azbanbayev Marat Aktorgaevich and I were lucky to be invited by the main organizer of the anniversary events, the famous statesman and public figure Yensegenov Sarsenbay Kurmanuly. On November 27, a monument-bust for the poet was erected in front of the secondary school №2 named after Zh. Nazhimedenov in the city of Atyrau. The bust was made with the support of Sarsenbay Yensegenov. The author of the monument is the Kazakh sculptor Serik Mateniyazov

The researcher of Zh. Nazhimedenov’s life and labor activity M. Azbanbaev’s book "My Kazakhstan is Zhumeken" was sent from Karaganda as a special gift. The celebration was followed by the International scientific-theoretical online conference "Zh. Nazhimedenov and the prospects for the development of Kazakh poetry", which took place at Kh.Kh. Dosmukhamedova Atyrau State University. It was attended by the daughter of the poet Aiken Nazhimedenov, native scholars, poets and composers, as well as guests from Poland, Turkey, China. Rector of Atyrau State University Salamat Nurmukhanovich Idrisov proposed to organize a research center at the University to research the life and labor activity of Zh. Nazhimedenov.

On the birthday of the great poet, November 28, we visited his homeland - the eponymous village in the moving sands of Koshalak. This amazing nature of the sandy desert harmonizes with the character of Zhumeken: “I am sunburned as you are; I smelt flowers as you did. I'm low as you are; I'm tall and scrape the sky as you do!”

There are few houses left in the village of Koshalak, but the memory of the great Countryman is carefully preserved. A local resident, poet, member of the Union of Journalists, Esmukhan Zhanizin, dedicated the poem “Ak shakyl. Zhumeken " (White gravel – translator’s note). For the inhabitants of the village, everyone who comes into contact with the work of Zhumeken is accepted as a close relative. That day poems and songs of the great poet sounded in the houses of villagers. And it seemed that Zhumeken himself was with us in his Koshalak.

The knowledge that we have gained during our stay in the homeland of the Poet, the inner upsurge that we experienced these days, opened something new in us. Probably, this happens every time you meet with real spiritual wealth. Now, again reliving in myself all the events of this holiday, I remember the people who surrounded us with warmth - the main organizer of the ceremonial events Sarsenbay Kurmanuly Yensegenov, the rector of Kh. Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau State University Salamat Nurmukhanovich Idrisov, secretary of the maslikhat of the Kurmangazy region Bolat Temirzhanovich Zhuginisov, member of the Union of Artists of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erkin Serikuly Bozzhigitov, operator of the regional television "Atyrau" Bolat Ergaliyev, driver Ruslan, who drove us with a special hard art in the desert.

The road back to Atyrau went through the Kurmangazy region. We stopped at the monument to Abai. And the words of Zh.Nazhimedenov, dedicated to the great thinker, came to mind: «I came to you in search of myself …». These words can be addressed to Zhumeken himself as well.
