On December 6 2022, the Foreign Languages Department of the Philological Faculty at the L.N. Gumilyov University held its second scientific and methodological seminar entitled " Application of modern innovative technologies in Foreign Languages Classrooms " in the 2022-2023 academic year.
The seminar was devoted to the application of modern technologies in the learning process in the study of foreign languages at higher educational institutions, in particular, its theoretical and practical aspects were considered, as teacher's personal brand in social networks and increasing the interest of students through the use of modern information and communication (web) technologies in educational process, recommendations for improving the various levels of teaching and learning foreign languages.
The following lecturers presented their topics of speeches:
1) Teacher's personal brand in social networks – Nurmanova M. R., MSc Nazabayev University, Director of language school MadinaSchool
2) Increasing the interest of students by using modern information and communication (Web) technologies in the educational process - master, lecturer of the department Ilyasova А.K.
Master, senior lecturer Kuzar Zh.N., who initiated the meeting with Nurmanova M.R., introduced the teaching staff the guest speaker, noting her as the founder of the language school, MSc Nazabayev University, director of the MadinaSchool language school, which also has experience work at NIS, with a personal IELTS score of 8.5 and blogging since 2017.
In her English presentation entitled «Teacher's personal brand in social networks» Nurmanova M.R. focused on the following sections: to explore the concept of "a personal brand", to discuss the benefits of creating a personal brand for educators, to learn basic steps to create a personal brand. The speaker had an interesting conversation with the teachers of the department, during which the following issues were discussed: What are your associations with brands? Can an educator/teacher also be a brand? How? What is a personal brand? Why do we need a personal brand? How to build a personal brand as an educator?
Nurmanova M.R. named the teachers of Kazakhstan, who through social networks such as TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, contribute to the motivation for studying various subjects and share interesting facts from their teaching experience. The speaker also shared her personal experience of using social networks in teaching and blogging, which she has been doing since 2017.
Candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor of the department Mukhtarkhanova A.M. asked questions about the attention of the teachers to the use of these social networks, senior teacher Niyazbekova A.M. about the bloggers she follows to, senior lecturer Nurlybai A.M. whether the brands she uses as a hobby or business activity of the speaker, to all these questions detailed answers were provided.
Master, lecturer of the department Ilyasova А.K. in her Kazakh presentation entitled «Increasing the interest of students by using modern information and communication (Web) technologies in the educational process» noticed that increasing the students interest to foreign languages in modern higher education through the use of modern information and communication (Web) technologies in the educational process causes the following consequences, such as testing knowledge and skills using test tasks, more knowledge in less time, student independent work, the ability to quickly obtain necessary information, making an informed decision based on information presented from a critical point of view, independent finding of information, its analysis, selection and storage.

Ilyasova A.K. expresses the confidence that the use of digital technologies increases motivation, promotes a deliberate approach to self-control. The teacher is given the opportunity of an individual approach to assessing the level of knowledge and eliminating the identified gaps. Innovative teaching of a foreign language involves the widespread introduction of new teaching methods. Modern computer technologies help diversify the various work of students, contribute to its more effective control by the teacher.
The lecturer of the department Bakhyt A. asked question about the Padlet program, about the expediency of using this program when studying units from English File, a detailed answer was given with a demonstration of these applications and an explanation of how to work on them.
Summing up the results of the seminar, the participants expressed a unique positive opinion about the relevance of the issues considered, their novelty and the value of the information received for further practice.
