On the 2nd of February2018 translation skills competition among high-school students of Astana was hosted by the Department of General Linguistics and Translation Theory.107 high school students from 15 schools took part in the competition. The Dean of Philology Faculty Zharkinbekova Sh. K. and the Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Translation Theory Satenova S.K. welcomed all participants.
The competition consisted of two parts: the first part – written translation of text from Russian or Kazakh into English, the second part included sight translation from English into Russian or Kazakh.
Consequently 12 winning places were assigned: two 1st place prizes, four 2nd place prizes and six 3rd place prizes.
The Head of the Department of General Linguistics and Translation Theory Satenova S.K. awarded winners with prizes and diplomas, underlining the high level of preparation and active involvement of the students. A teacher of physics-technical lyceum Kemelbek Berikbolsyn addressed to the students and draw attention to the importance of such competitions among school students.
