An open lecture "Effective Paradigms in the Research Work Development of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics" was held

On April 22nd 2021, within the framework of the faculty plan of events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, an open online lecture on the topic "Effective paradigms in the development of research work at the department" was held by Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics M. B. Nurtazina.

 

In her lecture, Professor Nurtazina M.B. covered in detail the issue concerning the effectiveness of scientific research, revealed the concepts of "efficiency" and "efficiency of scientific research". She pointed out that the main criterion for the effectiveness of scientific research in science is the degree of satisfaction of educational and research needs. Efficiency, according to the scientist, should be evaluated and measured by a complex of various qualitative indicators and quantitative parameters.

During the lecture, special attention was paid to the effectiveness of research work of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics as a structural unit of the university that creates conditions and infrastructures contributing to the conduct of effective scientific research and the promotion of their results. The lecturer presented an overview of the implementation of research projects of the department, the organization and conduct of scientific events as well as data on the achievements of the teaching staff and students. Also, Professor M.B. Nurtazina conducted a thorough analysis of the publication activity of teachers and students, the citation of scientific publications of the teaching staff of the department in foreign journals indexed in the international databases RSCI, Scopus, Web of Science.

The research effectiveness, according to the lecturer, is confirmed by the fact that according to the results of the 2021 QS World University Ranking by Subject, carried out by the international rating agency QS Symonds (Great Britain), the subject "Linguistics" entered the top 251-300 among 1,059 universities in the world. In conclusion, Professor Nurtazina M. B. noted that in accordance with the basic principles of Kazakhstani university education, scientific activity at the university should be inextricably linked with teaching, which ensures high quality, advanced quality of education, reproduction of scientific personnel in the education system, etc. Further, she emphasized that when developing approaches to assessing the effectiveness of the department's scientific activity, it is necessary to proceed from the following theoretical provisions of proxeology in relation to the designated problem: firstly, the effectiveness of science, and secondly, the goals of scientific activity that serve as criteria for the effectiveness of the research process, which is the standard by which efficiency is measured.
