Heart and soul of the nation

Our traditional festival of the languages of the people of Kazakhstan, which finished work at the philological faculty on September 25, drew attention of representatives of South Korea (Gangsang National University) and China (Xinjiang University) who arrived on September 18 at the Department of Russian Philology for training under the program of academic mobility.

The program of the festival for foreign students, prepared by the senior teacher Rakhima Mukhamedeevna Omarova, included contests "Russian language in songs", "First attempt at writing", "Polyglot fight".

A student from France Jérémie Convert shared his experience of studying foreign languages at "a round table". He reminded fellow students the statement of the ancient Roman historian and the writer Quintus Ennius Tacitus: "I have three hearts, three souls, because I can speak Greek, on Oka, and in Latin." A student from Lyon has "four hearts, four souls": he speaks French, English, Spanish, Russian. The participants of the conversation noted that the Chinese language with its hieroglyphic writing is one of the most difficult to study. Rather difficult can be considered also English - because of the discrepancy of letters and sounds. The one who has “a tin ear” has little chance of mastering well, for example, Vietnamese with its musical accent, and a person with a poor visual memory will be tormented by Chinese characters. Any language conceals its pitfalls. Russian plunges into despair with a moving accent, English - by a cunning spelling, Japanese and Korean - by difficult rules of speech etiquette.

As part of the festival for future translators and teachers of the " "high and mighty language" was organized presentation of new textbooks on Russian language and intercultural communication.

The festival which presented to participants an opportunity to discover the world in a new way, to immerse themselves in a multinational atmosphere, to gain invaluable experience of communication with speakers of various languages and cultures, was completed at the philological faculty with a gala concert. Visitors from Korea and China demonstrated to all attendees original national songs and dances, bright and unusual costumes.
