INVITATION LETTER
The Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Philology of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University is hosting the Republican Olympiad on Foreign Languages (English and German) among the 1st- year students of non-linguistic specialties, dedicated to the “Year of youth of Kazakhstan”. The Olympiad will take place on April 19-20, 2019.
I. Objectives:
The main objectives of the Olympiad on Foreign Languages are to increase the motivation to learn foreign languages as well as to enhance the sociocultural and linguistic-cultural competence of the students.
II. Organization and procedure:
1st-year students of non-linguistic specialties are eligible to participate in English and German languages in the Republican Olympiad on foreign languages. The limited number of participants is 5 students for each language.
All participants are required bring a student card and ID card.
The winners of the Republican Olympiad of 2017-2018 academic years are not allowed to participate.
III. Phases of Olympiad:
The Olympiad will be organised in two rounds:
I round. Testing (based on materials of the international standard) - level B1 / B2;
II round. Homework: project presentation on the theme “Today’s Youth – Tomorrow’s Future” (time limit - 5 min).
Those students who scored over 70% of the points in the first round are eligible to proceed their participation in the second round.
All expenses related to participation in the Olympiad (travel costs, per diem, accommodation) are covered by the sending party.
