On March 02, 2022 the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, according to the University Plan, hosted a yearly regional subject olympiad in English in the format of the international exam IELTS organized by the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department. The registration of participants in the subject Olympiad took place online on the university website. According to the results, 65 participants were registered – students of secondary educational institutions of Kazakhstan. The opening ceremony of the Olympiad was held in virtual mode on the ZOOM platform on March 02, 2022, where Dean of the Faculty of Philology Ardak B. Beisenbay and head of the Department Lyazzat Zh. Beisenbayeva made a welcoming speech. Schoolchildren heard from the representatives of the university administration instructions and wishes of success in participating in the Republican Olympiad, as well as brief information about the upcoming vocational guidance events of ENU – Online Open Door Activities and virtual meetings with students who would like to study in ENU in the future. To participate in the IELTS Olympiad, 65 participants joined the work of 6 virtual teams from among the teachers of the Department of Theory and Practice of Foreign Languages - students of schools, gymnasiums, lyceums and colleges of the 10th and 11th grades from areas of Kazakhstan.
The Olympiad was held in 2 stages:
1st stage, 15.00-15.40- academic writing IELTS (Writing, Section 2),
2nd stage оn March 02, 2022, 16.00-17.30 p.m. - speaking IELTS (Speaking, Section 2).
Participants of the subject Olympiad showed the commissions of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department, headed by Zhanna A. Beisembayeva. good knowledge of the English language, skills of oral public speech and academic writing worked out at school in compliance with the grammatical, lexical and stylistic features of academic English. After the meeting of the members of the Counting Commission from among the teaching staff of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department, the following results of the Republican Subject Olympiad were derived:
