Session of the Methodical Decade at the Faculty of Philology

      The work of the University Methodical Decade “Methodological Competence of a University Teacher in Terms of the Development of Innovative Teaching Technologies”, which began on January 9, 2020 and will continue up to 17th, is actively continuing.

     On January 14, 2020, the work of the Methodical Decade took place at the Faculty of Philology under the leadership of the Dean of the Faculty, Candidate of Philological Sciences A.B. Beisenbay and Head of the University Methodical Office, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Professor A.B. Baiymbetova.

     The participants of the session of the Methodical Decade were the administrative and teaching staff of the university, including Dean of the Faculty of Law Zh.I. Ibragimov, Heads of Departments Turysbek R.S., Malikov K.T., Sagimbayeva D.E., Yessenova G.Zh., Yeskindirova M.Zh., Akbarkhan D., Chief of the Faculty’s Educational-Methodical Council Kenzhalin K.K., as well as professors and teachers of the Faculties of Philology, Law, Economics, Social Sciences and Journalism and Political Sciences.

    Two methodical reports were presented to the audience. The first report on the topic “Multimedia Technologies in Teaching Foreign Languages” was presented by Candidate of Philological Sciences, Head of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department ​​Zh.A. Beisembaeva and Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department ​​A.M. Abdykhalykova. Speakers drew the audience’s attention to the importance in the information society age of increasing the effectiveness of classes, the use of a student-centered approach by teachers and the need to computerize the educational process. Using specialized programs on PC and online makes the learning process at school and university not only instructive and informative, but also entertaining. That is why we are witnessing significant changes in the model of the teacher, who today performs a guiding function and takes an observant position. Associate Professor A.M. Abdykhalykova teaches author courses at the Foreign Language Theory and Practice Department, such as “Multimedia technologies in FLT”, “E-learning in FLT”, “CLIL in FLT”, and “STEM in FLT”. Students learned about multimedia technologies that the faculty actively uses in teaching English. In particular, the seminar participants were offered various free online and offline programs, such as “Tools to create Infographics”, “Speech Tools For Teachers”, “Digital Storytelling Tools For Teachers”, “Podcast Tools For Teachers”, “Survey, Polls, and Quizzes Tools For Teachers”, “Free Screen Capturing Tools For Teachers”, “Social Bookmarking Tools For Teachers”, “Online Bibliography and Citation Tools For Teachers”, “Sticky Notes Tools For Teachers”, “Photo and Image Editing Tools For Teachers”, “Testing and Quizzing Tool For Teachers”, “Web Conferencing Tools For Teachers”, “Authoring Tools For Teachers”, “Annotation Tools For Teachers”, “Video Tools For Teachers”, “Free PDF Tools For Teachers”, “Sites To Download Royalty Free and Creative Commons Music For Teachers”, “Stock Photos Sites For Teachers”.

     The second report of the Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor of the Kazakh Linguistics Department Қurmanbayeva Sh.K. on the topic “From the Experience of Using Criteria-Based Assessment in the Organization of Students’ Independent Work” aroused particular interest among listeners. Criteria assessment is an effective way of organizing independent work of each student, and as a confirmation of this statement, Kurmanbayeva Sh.K. presented to the audience of the session of the Methodical Decade the results of a survey conducted among 500 participants in pedagogical, social and technical specialties. The most popular forms of SIW among modern students are: writing abstract, presentations, essays, posters, projects, etc.

     The final stage of the session of the Methodical Decade was the discussion of participants – the university faculty on modern technologies and approaches in the organization of the modern educational process.

    The session listeners invited the leadership of the Faculty of Philology, in particular, the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department to conducting courses on teaching the university faculty to use multimedia technologies in the educational process and on preparing them for the English international exams (IELTS). These proposals will be transferred to the University’s Institute for Advanced Learning.
