WE CONGRATULATE THE WINNER OF THE REPUBLICAN NIRS COMPETITION

The II stage of the Republican competition of students' research projects in higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held at the Karaganda State University named after E. A. Buketov. According to the results of the competition in the specialty “5BO11900 Foreign language: two foreign languages” among 23 works from 9 universities of the country, the project of a third-year bachelor student of the philological faculty Marypkhan Saltanat Akhylzhanzyzy called “Volunteering opportunities near me: Social interaction and Language (Using VR technologies in teaching / learning English)” along with the supervisor of studies, doctor of philosophy, professor of the Department of Theory and Practice of Foreign Languages Baigunisova Gulbarshin Ilrisovna were awarded a Diploma of the Ministry of the III degree.

Interest in the use of VR / AR technologies (virtual and augmented reality technologies) arose from Maraphan Saltanat in the process of listening to a course in teaching a foreign language. A project plan was put together with her supervisor, which was then successfully tested at the Nur-Sultan school. The relevance of using digital technology in the learning process does not cause any doubt. Virtual and augmented reality are completely new tools for education. They are not yet capable of completely replacing existing teaching methods, but today these technologies can qualitatively supplement training, make it more accessible, easier and more fun.

Saltanat made reports on this topic at a seminar of the department, an article devoted to this problem was sent by her to an international conference in Almaty (Al-Farabi Kazakh National University), which, due to the situation in the country, was postponed to September 2020. We wish success to the young scientist and her supervisor.
