We remember you, the victorious hero!

War... even the thought of it is frightening. It is now 2022, 77 years since the end of the war.

We live happily, study, educate, develop, the sky is clear above us, we make plans for the future, this is how life goes ... And every year there are fewer and fewer of them. According to the Nur-Sultan City Veterans Organization, 16 veterans of the Great Patriotic War live in our city. The oldest is 102 years old and the youngest is 96 years old. Someone is sick and bedridden, someone is in good health, and someone is in a nursing home.

Teachers of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Philology of L.N. Gumilev ENU traditionally hold an annual charity event dedicated to Victory Day. Because each of us in the family has ancestors who fought in the Great Patriotic War, who did not return home or went missing, we do not forget them, we always remember, we constantly pray for their souls. This year, as usual, we raised money and decided to give it to three veterans and congratulate them on the holiday.

So, we were given the addresses of three veterans by the Veterans Organization of the city of Nur-Sultan, took flowers, postcards, put our cash gifts in them and went to their homes.

The first veteran is Utyun Mustafin, 96 years old, was called into the army in December 1944 at the age of 18 and fought against the Nazis in the 303rd Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Belorussian Front. Then he took part in the liberation of the Czech Republic. After the war, he devoted his professional career to the police. Veteran of the Great Patriotic War Utyun Mustafin was awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War II degree, the medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945", all commemorative medals of the Great Patriotic War, as well as five medals of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He has been bedridden for 4 years. On the eve of the holiday, on behalf of the teachers of the department, his 86-year-old wife was presented a cash gift, a postcard and a bouquet of flowers.

The second veteran is Baykeshev Rzagul, 99 years old. He fought in the Kalinin region of Russia, in the cities of Ryzhov and Veliky Lug. He participated in the battles for the liberation of Poland, Romania and Hungary in the rank of corporal. After the Great Patriotic War, he worked as a freight forwarder at the Rozhdestvenka state farm. Awards: Order of the Patriotic War, Marshal G.K. Zhukov and several commemorative medals.

The third veteran is Balkarova Elena Nikitichna, 98 years old. Years of participation in the war: 1941-1945. She fought in the 2nd Belorussian Infantry Regiment. Military rank was a private,a  driver. After demobilization, she worked as an accountant at a mill. She was awarded the Order of the Patriotic, 1st degree, "For the Victory over Germany", and commemorative medals. She is currently seriously ill.

So we have completed our mission. When we saw the veterans, we rejoiced and worried. A sense of pride overwhelmed us when we saw the heroes who lived for a century. We thanked them, and although they did not hear, they understood it by looking at our faces. They were as happy as a child and said that they had been waiting for us since they heard that we were coming. And we were very glad that we could cheer up our old heroes. On the other hand, we did not want to say goodbye to them. Old age takes its toll, it brings illnesses, it makes you grow old. We wish such heroes would live forever!

Veterans and their relatives expressed their deep gratitude to the department and the university as a whole and wished all the best. The organization of veterans of the Great Patriotic War in Nur-Sultan, in turn, also thanked the teachers for their support and attention to veterans.
