An open lesson «Education in the UK»

The 4th year students of specialty “Foreign language: two foreign languages” of theory and practice of foreign languages department, group FL-41 participated in showcase lesson which was held by Master of Pedagogical Sciences, teacher of English Meruyert Konkal. 9 students of group FL-41 participated in lesson. The theme of the lesson was “Education in the United Kingdom”. The event took place on the 25-th of November.

The aim of the event was to educate students to native pronunciation, education system in the UK, different language learning strategies. Furthermore, Learners should be aware of the education in the UK, aware of the target culture of the language, what is the meaning of the authentic materials. Moreover, the other goals should be taken into account. The lesson also aimed to develop of cognitive abilities of students, to form creative and critical thinking of students through discussion and to expand the horizons of students by gaining new knowledge on the topic.

 

 Different specific skills and techniques were used during the lesson. The lesson focused on developing of listening and speaking skills as well as reading and writing skills; different thinking ability and learning ability. In the beginning of the lesson teacher explained the education system of the UK using PowerPoint presentation.

Teacher asked their students different questions related to the topic in order to to check understanding of new title, to review previous knowledge, matching, students discussion about the  meaning of the subject. Next tasks were to watch the video, analyze and answer questions. These tasks were used to increase listening skills of students. Speaking, reading and writing tasks were included and discussed as well.

At the end of the lesson students had an overview of  learning objectives and expected outcomes. They wrote down on the paper their opinion on the given lesson. Specially invited teachers thanked the organizer Meruyert Konkal for holding such interesting lesson. Both teachers and students are sure that such lessons are very beneficial for developing students’ educational awareness of studied language’s country and increasing the level of English from four different sides.
