Online scientific and methodological seminar entitled « Effective Teaching Methodologies in Foreign Languages Classrooms»

February 24, 2022 the Department of Foreign Languages ​​of the Philological Faculty at the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University held online seminar entitled «Effective Teaching Methodologies in Foreign Languages Classrooms»

The seminar was devoted to the problems of effective methods of foreign languages  teaching ​​in higher education, in particular, its theoretical and practical aspects of foreign languages intensive teaching, the development of effective methods of teaching speaking, recommendations for improving the methodological directions of teaching and learning foreign languages ​​were considered.

The following lectures presented their topics of speeches:  

1) K voprosy o metodike intensivnogo obucheniya inostrannym yazykam [The question of foreign languages intensive teaching methodology] – Tussupova G.K.

2) Shet tilderin okytuda auyzsha soileuge uyretudin adistery [Methods of teaching speaking in foreign languages]  Tanesh B.

The candidate of pedagogical sciences, Assistant Professor of the Department Tussupova G.K. dwelled on issues of the foreign languages intensive teaching methodology. The main emphasis was made on the acceleration of scientific and technological progress, being a factor in the development of the education system, provides an increase in the volume and strengthening of knowledge, a new level of education, provision of cognitive needs, independence and pragmatics.

The speaker indicated that the diachronic consideration of foreign language intensive teaching in order to indicate its functioning mechanisms is aimed at revealing some adaptive possibilities when working with the teaching and methodological materials used for the disciplines "Foreign language I", "Foreign language II". Prospects in this direction could be the development of educational material in sections, causing a system of actions, modeling the educational process, united by a common plot strategy, each class in which is a stage of the general, with the development of a personal communication plan.

At the end of the presentation questions were asked by candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor Tussupbekova M.Zh. and senior lecturer of the department Tussupbekova N.S. They were about the effectiveness of using SIW in foreign languages intensive teaching, about the level of students in educational process and about the principles of the didactic approach that are used in the creation of teaching aids. All these questions were provided in detail.

 

The second issue was considered by the lecturer Tanesh Bota, who dwelled on the content of English teaching speaking methodology, which depends on the complex of knowledge, skills and abilities acquired by students in language communication. Speech training is carried out in the form of monologues and dialogues. Tanesh B. noted that in classes it is possible to develop oral speech through games, questions and answers, inserting the words of a poem, composing a text from a picture and using cards. All of these methods are successfully used by her during the educational process.

In addition, the emergence of multimedia, hypertext, network and communication information technologies has opened up the great opportunities for foreign language effective teaching. Multimedia technologies allow the use of text documents, graphics, audio and video. Today, the use of advanced world experience, new technologies and methods in teaching languages ​​in order to improve the quality of modern English teaching provides an excellent opportunity to develop students' speaking skills.

Ass.Professor Tussupbekova M.Zh. in her comments for the Tanesh B. report notes that teaching speaking is accompanied by a number of problems during the educational process: the fullness of groups, the lack of language environment, having of multi-level groups, and teachers need to find different ways to improve speaking skills, and indicates in Bota’s presentation that the use of Media in speaking is a very timely and necessary condition for the development of speaking skills. To Bakhyt A.'s question about the use of game moments where Tanesh B. pays great attention to, a detailed answer was given with a demonstration of these game moments

When summing up the results of the seminar, the participants expressed a unanimous positive opinion about the relevance of the issues discussed, their novelty and the value of the information received for further practice.
