Scientific Seminar from Visiting Professor

The Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department of the Faculty of Philology pays special attention to the development of international cooperation with universities in the near and far abroad. One example of such cooperation is a short-term visit of a foreign professor from one of the leading universities in Latvia – EK =A University of Applied Sciences – doctor of pedagogy, professor, head of English degree programs Larisa Turusheva.

Collaboration with this university was initiated thanks to the European teacher exchange program Erasmus + whose scholarship allowed 3 teachers of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department visit in April 2019 the Latvian university partner with lecture courses and take part in the international conference in section reports, one of the organizers of which was Professor Larisa Turusheva (http://ff.enu.kz/post/international-scientific-conference-emerging-trends-in-economics -cultural-and-humanities). In May 2019, Professor Turusheva visited the L.N. Gumilyov ENU also under the Erasmus + program, where the faculty of the Theoretical and Applied Linguistics Department and the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department​​organized and conducted discussions on modern methodologies of foreign language teaching for master and PhD students of the Faculty of Philology. During Professor Turusheva’s visit, Head of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department Zhanna ​​Beisembaeva invited the professor to come to ENU under the program of a short-term invitation of foreign professors of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 1 month to give lectures for master students of the “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” degree program.

Thus, Professor Larisa Turusheva arrived at the L.N. Gumilyov ENU for the period from October 2 to October 28, 2019, thanks to the program of inviting foreign professors of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. She has already begun lectures (90 hours) for first-year master students of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department called “Academic English” and “Fundamentals of Rhetoric and Oratory”.

 

On October 11, 2019, a scientific seminar “Innovative Technologies in Teaching a Foreign Language” was held for the teaching staff of the Faculty of Philology with the participation of first-year master students.

The aim of the seminar was to exchange experience in teaching English in European and Kazakhstani universities, where visiting professor Larisa Turusheva made a presentation on those innovative methods that are widely used by Latvian colleagues at EKA University of Applied Sciences: blended learning (inverted classroom), reflection in teaching, etc. The visiting professor paid special attention to the academic writing abilities of teachers and their public speaking skills.
