Scientific Seminar on Multimedia Technologies for master and PhD students of the Faculty of Philology

On February 22, 2018, Candidate of pedagogical sciences, Associate Professor of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department A.​​Abdykhalykova held a scientific and methodological seminar on “The Use of Multimedia in English Language Teaching”. Head of the Department ​​ Zh.Beisembayeva introduced the lecturer to the participants of the seminar – PhD students of the Foreign Philology Department and master students with a major in “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages”.

The seminar participants learned about multimedia technologies which teachers of the Foreign Languages ​​Theory and Practice Department actively use in the teaching process – in teaching English. During the seminar, the issues of creating and using multimedia programs were touched upon. In particular, the participants were offered various free online and offline programs, such as Nicenet, Blog, Padlet, SUMIK, Camtasio Studio, as well as various free educational resources for TeachersTube teachers, Skype for teachers, TEDx Talks, TED Conference (Technology, Entertainment, Design), SKILLShare, Moodle, Claroline, Udemy, Rcampus, eDhii and Peer 2 Peer University. 

There were also offered free webinars for teachers, such as: Massachusets Institute of Technology (mit.edu) – Open Course Ware project; Open University (open.ac.uk) – Open Learn; TUFTS University (tufts.edu); Stanford University (stanford.edu); University of California (Berkeley -berkeley.edu); Utah State University (usu.edu).

Lecturer A. Abdykhalykova paid special attention to problems that can arise when creating multimedia programs. To this end, the participants were shown the above multimedia programs and provided instructions for creating a network training and methodological complex (SUMIK) for organizing online learning on a specific example.

The concluding stage of the scientific seminar was the speech by of the Head of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department Zh.Beisembayeva. She drew the listeners’ attention to the importance of the information presented for the pedagogical activities and pointed to the importance and urgency of holding similar scientific seminars for young teachers and scientists.
