Our colleague is a veteran of the Afghan war

On April 18, teachers of the Department of Practical Kazakh Language of the Faculty of Philology invited a veteran of the Afghan War and professor of the Eurasian National University, candidate of law Umirzakov P.K. to the evening «Veterans among us». In the evening, special guests, the head of the Department and students of the Faculty of Philology, Information Technology and Natural Sciences took part. The purpose of this evening was to tell students about the Afghan war, openly communicate with war veterans, awaken patriotic feelings. The hosts of this meeting, Aubakir Zholdasov and Sabina Nurmukhammat, also touched upon the history of this war.

In December 1979, the Soviet government decided to send troops to Afghanistan. By the decree of the leadership of the Soviet Union, young people went to war to fulfill their international duty to the Afghan people. Thus, a limited number of Soviet troops have been fighting in Afghanistan for ten years. How much innocent blood has been shed! Many young people were killed. Many families mourned the loss of their beloved children.

Everyone knows that the consequences and horrors of war for a person are limitless. About 14 thousand Soviet soldiers did not return home from the Afghan war. Among them were Kazakhstanis. 22,200 Kazakhstanis took part in the battles on Afghan lands, of which 761 soldiers were killed, 484 returned disabled. 21 soldiers were missing. It is a sacred duty to remember the exploits of the soldiers who died in battle.

The truth about the Afghan War has not been told for many years. Much was revealed only after our country gained independence. On February 15, 1989, the last stream of the Soviet army was finally withdrawn from Afghanistan. It's been 34 years since then. In memory of the past, February 15 of each year was declared the Day of Remembrance of the participants of the Afghan war.

After showing a video about this historic event, the Afghan war veteran Pernebek Kurashovich was given the floor and asked many questions.

«The Afghan war is a special page of history that deeply wounds the heart. Fighting among bullets and fire, you understand with all your soul how your Motherland, which has remained far away, is so close to you. For us, Afghanistan has become an incurable wound for the soul. In this war, history was written in blood of very young guys. We must not forget their exploits and names», - said the guest of the evening.

In honor of the veteran, students read poems, sang songs, performed kui. The expressive reading of poems made a special impression. The participants were pleased and applauded the talented students.  The head of the Department of Practical Kazakh language K. S. Kulmanov summed up the evening with the words:

«Courage is a great quality of the soul», - said one wise old man. It is a pleasure for us to meet with veterans, to take interviews, like today, and listen to their memories. Having fulfilled your duty to the Motherland and risked on the territory of another state, being at that time an ardent youth, and now adults, you deserve great respect! Your merit to the Motherland will become an example for the next generation. May there never be such a war again! May eternal silence reign in an independent country! Let the blue flag rise high over the country!"

At the end of the evening, the students who came to a special meeting took a picture with the veteran.
