Every year by the leadership of teachers of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, students of non-linguistic faculties participate in international conferences, various linguistic competitions and Olympiads. Thus, on December 15 the 1-st year students of the Faculty of Journalism and Political Science under the guidance of Associate Professor Ayupova G.K. took part in the online Russian competition with international participation in Rhetoric and Speech Communications "THE POWER OF THE WORD". The event was organized by the Department of Russian and Oriental Languages of the Siberian Transport University (STU, Novosibirsk, Russia). The aim of the competition is to increase students’ cognitive interest in the Russian language and speech culture, to provide each participant with an opportunity to show creativity in linguistic thinking.
Competition tasks consisted of three stages: solving a rhetorical problem, rhetorical analysis of a conflict speech situation (in the team championship) and a public speech by the team captain (in the individual championship) on the topic: “The value of life”. The last stage was demonstrated by a team video with a persuasive speech on a given topic.
Nine teams took part in the competition (7 - from Russian universities, 2 - from Kazakhstani universities). The team of L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University was represented by students of the KJ-11 group: Amangeldy Aruzhan (team captain), Bekmyrza Dana, Berzhanova Indira, Kenzhebay Saltanat, Kabdylmanapov Doszhan. The students had to demonstrate the excellent level of the Russian language, the logic of thinking, as well as show a creative thinking, intelligence and public speech skills. The students completed all tasks quickly and accurately. The jury also noted the video of the team of our university, which presented the vision of the key role of social values in the life of every person from the younger generation’s point of view. The video also demonstrated the importance of the right to choose, the need to make a decision, and the fact that a clear understanding of the life values contributes to the formation of character, control of actions, desires and decisions. This video was marked by high reviews from students of other universities.
According to the results of the competition on rhetoric and speech communications "THE POWER OF THE WORD", the team of L. N. Gumilyov ENU won the 2-nd prize and was awarded a diploma. We congratulate the team of our university and its head, Gulbagira Kairbekovna, who prepared the students for the intellectual competition! We can rightly proud of our students! Participation in such events always opens up new opportunities to express yourselves and find new motivation to improve and open new horizons of knowledge!
