Translation Theory and Practice Department and Association of translators and translation companies organized Round table "Simultaneous translation: solo or duet”

On December 14, 2018, Faculty of Philology, Translation Theory and Practice Department and Association of translators and translation companies organized the round table "Simultaneous translation: solo or duet”. This event was held in the form of a video conference, as Kazakh, European and Belarussian speakers took part in the seminar. 

Head of the Translation Theory and Practice Department, Manshuk Zhumabayevna Yeskindirova, PhD Doctor addressed the participants of the round table with welcoming words. She introduced the speakers.

Speakers: Naymushin B., personal interpreter of the President of Bulgaria, Candidate of philological sciences, Associate Professor of the theory and practice of translation in the New Bulgarian University, Master in methods of teaching conference interpreting of Geneva University, Shurovskaya N.A., simultaneous translator of English, Russian and Norwegian languages, teacher of Norwegian language, Center for International Studies, Minsk, Belarus, Volkova L.V. – Candidate of philological sciences associate professor, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages ​​of the EGI, Astana, Kazakhstan, Chudnovskaya Y.V., freelance translator (oral and written), author of a practical course for simultaneous translators (A level), Yastrebov A.Y – master student of  Translation Studies specialty, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Head of the Analytical Committee of the Association of Professional Translators and Translation Companies, translator, Astana, Kazakhstan.

All speakers shared their practical experience of working in pairs or solo in the process of simultaneous translation. The participants of the round table asked questions actively and shared their opinions. By the end of the round table “Simultaneous translation: solo or duet”, it was decided to develop professional standards for the work of a simultaneous translator, which would confirm the norms and rules of the simultaneous translation process.

The seminar was attended by teachers, students, Master and Doctor students undergraduates and doctoral students of Faculty of Philology, as well as members of Association of translators and translation companies in Kazakhstan. The participants of the round table exchanged the practical experience in the process of simultaneous translation.
