ENU Participation in QS Subject Focus Summit 2020

In 2020, the QS summit was held on the basis of the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia in the subject areas “Modern Languages” and “Linguistics”, where ENU was also active. Professor of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Gulzhan Gauriyeva took part in the three-day work of the QS Summit “Languages and Migration in the Context of Globalization”, held on December 15-17, 2020. The ENU professor made a report “Global Education: Learning with the World” on the first day of the summit.

According to the professor, modern education at school and university must be global, since global education is an educational perspective that stems from the fact that today we live and interact in an increasingly globalizing world. Modern integration trends and globalization processes indicate that there should be no social, national or other types of division in the world; a person should strive and be an active participant in the creation of a peaceful, safe, tolerant and inclusive world; we must grow in relationship with nature and be able to take responsibility for it. In order to bring up such society, schools and universities all over the world must introduce the “global education” component into the education system and educate responsible and active world citizens who have a sense of belonging to the world and who are ready to face global social, political, economic and environmental challenges.

More than 50 countries were represented at the QS SUBJECT FOCUS international summit: USA, Australia, Japan, China, Great Britain, Germany, France, Spain and many others. etc. The three-day summit was attended by 300 experts in the field of linguistics and modern languages.

Kazakhstani professors of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University also spoke at the summit: Doctor of Philology Eleonora Suleimenova and Doctor of Technical Sciences Ualsher Tukeyev.

In 2020 the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University has achieved high results in the ranking of world universities by the QS rating agency: 52nd position among universities in developing Europe and Central Asia and 43rd position in the ranking of young universities “Top 50 under 50”.

Our university is also an annual participant in the QS summits, which are held in different countries, whose universities are represented in the ranking. In 2019, the L.N. Gumilyov ENU was a co-organizer of the QS 2019 summit, which was held on October 14-15 at the Vitautas Magnus University in the Lithuanian city of Kaunas under the name “QS in Сonversation”.
