Teambuilding to Increase Teamwork

On December 4, 2019, the staff of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department of the Faculty of Philology took part in the training “Effective Team Work” organized by the HR department of our university, represented by its Head Olga Lashkareva

The term “teambuilding” is applied to a wide range of activities to create teamwork and increase its effectiveness. Teambuilding has been used in management since the second half of XX century, and today it is an integral tool for personnel management, whose members should equally share the work and bear overall responsibility for the results of their joint activities.

The HR department team prepared a number of tasks and games for the training participants that aroused particular interest among teachers. For example, make a list of personal qualities of a modern university teacher; describe or even depict the image of a modern university teacher and prove why this image is relevant for the present. Training participants also listened to lectures on the image of the teacher and the proper alignment and maintenance of the university’s PR policy.

Participation in the training of the staff of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department was most effective in that the Department Head Zhanna Beisembaeva as well as the young teachers who became part of the ENU team only this year took part in its work: Perizat Yelenova, Yengeniya Verba and Ayazhan Kabdenova.

Young specialists of the department not only listed the qualities that they consider important for the modern English teacher of a university, but also emphasized those modern technologies and trends that he must possess today.

And what are the results of the team after participating in this two-hour training? The university team showed that cohesion leads to the formation of a sustainable sense of “WE”; that team members must trust each other and show understanding and acceptance of the individual characteristics of their colleagues. It is very important at work, where we spend most of our lives, to be open and good-natured, tolerant and balanced, and, of course, to show our professionalism in everything. The lecture on PR policy, which was especially noted by the department teachers, was wholly aimed at developing the loyalty of the university staff in relation to their organization.

We would like to express our gratitude to the Head of the ENU Rector’s Office Anuar Maikanov for the idea of conducting this training and the HR department of our university represented by its Head Olga Lashkareva for organizing team building and for establishing horizontal ties within the team.
