Students of the Department of General Linguistics and Translation Theory became winners of the republican Olympiad

Students of the Department of General Linguistics and Translation Theory of specialty 5B020700- "Translation Studies" became winners of the Olympiad, held on February 23-24, 2018 at the Kazakh University of International Relations and World Languages ​​named after Abylai Khan, in Almaty. This event was held within the framework of the Republican student subject Olympiad on foreign languages ​​under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. 

For participants of the specialty "Translation Studies", the Olympiad was held in two rounds. I round - written, in which knowledge was assessed on the skills of accurately conveying the meaning of the text, preserving the structural and stylistic features of the text when translating from English into Kazakh and Russian. ІІ tour was oral consecutive translation of the text from English into Russian and Kazakh languages. An important role was played by mastering the skills of the translation census and highlighting key information in the process of consecutive translation. 

Participants of the Republican Olympiad and guests from among the teachers of other universities invited to work as part of the jury noted the good and high level of preparation of students of the Eurasian National University. Tynarbay Zhazira, a third-year student, took the second place, showing excellent results in English-Kazakh written and oral translation. Along with the certificate she got the grant for 300$ to study at any EF Education First school. 

Erzhan Arsen, a third-year student, took the third place, showing an excellent result on the results of 2 rounds of the Anglo-Russian translation. Along with the certificate he got the grant for 200$ to study at any EF Education First school.

A third year student, Orazaliyeva Sagadat and Maulan Madina, was noted by commission and was awarded a Letter of Gratitude for good written translation skills from English into Russian.

The Republican subject Olympiad is the largest student Olympiad in foreign languages, where 400 students from more than 40 universities Kazakhstan take part annually in the following specialties: foreign philology, translation studies, foreign language: two foreign languages, English, French, German, Korean, Arabic, Turkish, Persian, Japanese, and Chinese languages.
