Seminar from the company «StudyCraft»

On May 23, 2019 a seminar on the use of games in foreign language learning took place at L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University. The organizer of this seminar was a guest from Moscow, a representative of “StudyCraft” company and an English teacher, Elena Peresada.

“StudyCraft” is a Russian company which develops educational games in English. The company creates games for all levels of language proficiency, as well as for almost any age category of students. Games in English may be interesting not only for children, but also for adult learners, they can encourage students to learn the language and make this process interesting and exciting.

The seminar was held in the form of an active game, the participants of which were teachers of the Department of Theory and Practice of Foreign Languages, as well as master students. The teachers themselves acted as students and tried out a few of the card games developed by “StudyCraft”. The company offers a large selection of games on various topics; mainly they are aimed at practicing and memorizing certain grammatical structures. When playing a game, participants focus their attention on the course of the game and ways to win it. Grammatical constructions are trained automatically, without much effort and strain on the part of students. Thus, the use of such games in English lessons attracts students, and at the same time helps them develop language skills.

Teachers of the department appreciated the benefits of educational games and got great pleasure from participating in the game and from the seminar as a whole. ENU expressed gratitude to Elena Peresada and hope for further cooperation.
