Results of the International Online Olympiad on Teaching English!

The International Online Olympiad for future English teachers – students of the group of educational programs “Foreign Language Teacher Training” was announced as finished. It was held on February 18-19, 2021 by the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department of the Faculty of Philology in cooperation with partner universities: Francisk Skorina Gomel State University, Belarus; Termez State University and Azhiniyaz Nukus State Pedagogical Institute, Uzbekistan.

The opening of the Olympiad took place on February 18 with the participation of the ENU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Yerkin A. Ongarbayev, Director of the International Cooperation Department Anastasia V. Karmelyuk and Dean of the Faculty of Philology Ardak B. Beisenbay.

The Olympiad lasted for two days, where 120 participants, including 40 foreign students, took part in two rounds: Round 1 – written assignment, where participants wrote an essay on the topic “Mastery of Contemporary Methods of Teaching English is One of the Main Issues in Education” in English. The main task in this assignment for the participants was to reflect their understanding of a modern teacher – an English teacher and the modern content of education. The requirements for the essay were the following: disclosure of the topic, coherence and cohesion of the statement, lexical and grammatical accuracy and to write at least 250 words.

2nd round – spoken communication – solving a pragmatic and professional challenge in English – took place on February 19, 2021.

The written works and oral reports of the participants of the Olympiad were checked by 6 commissions from among the teaching staff of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department ​​according to the program of the International Online Olympiad.

Particularly active participation in the international Olympiad was shown by foreign participants – students from the partner universities, co-organizers of the event: 3rd year students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​of the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University, Belarus; 3rd year students of the Faculty of Foreign Philology, Termez State University, Uzbekistan; 3rd year students of the Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​of the Azhiniyaz Nukus State Pedagogical Institute, Uzbekistan. ENU 3rd year students of the educational program “5В011900 – Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages ​​(English)” took part in the Olympiad in full force – all the four groups.

After the work of the counting committee of the Olympiad, the following results were derived:
