On April 19-20, 2019, Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Philology hosted the Republican Student Olympiad on English and German languages among non-linguistic specialties in higher education institutions of Kazakhstan, with the sponsorship of Interpress Distribution LLP, the American Council as well as The Embassy of Germany.
Students from different regions of Kazakhstan came to demonstrate the knowledge of the language.Among the participants of the Olympiad were not only ENU students, but also students from other universities of the capital (Kazakh University of Economics, Finance and International Trade, Medical University, Astana University, S.Seifullin Kazakh Agrotechnical University, M. Narikbayev KAZGUU University) as well as students of regional universities, such as E.A. BoketovKaraganda State University, M. Kozybaev North Kazakhstan State University, S. Toraigyrov Pavlodar State University, Kh.A.Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University.
Welcoming word for the start of the Olympiad was provided by Moldazhanova A.A. - the first vice-rector - vice-rector for educational work of L.N.Gumilyov ENU, Zharkynbekova Sh.K.- Dean of the Faculty of Philology of L.N. Gumilyov ENU, Sagimbayeva J.E. - head of the department of foreign languages, Faculty of Philologyof L.N.Gumilyov ENU, Miller Y.A.-consultant-methodologist of Inter Press Distribution LLP
Among the invited guests it is worth to mention Beisembayeva S.T. - Ph.D., associate professor of L.N. Gumilyov ENU., Zhumanbekova N.Z. - Ph.D., associate professorL.N. Gumilev ENU, Marcello Lopez Lara - PhD Candidate of Nazarbayev University, Stephanie R. Olson - Instructor, Department of Lifelong Learning of Nazarbayev University.
Olympiad participants were offered 2 qualifying rounds. The purpose of the first round was to identify students with listening skills, as well as work on the lexical and grammatical test, the second round was devoted to the demonstration of communication skills.
According to the results of the Olympiad in English, the first place was awarded to a student of ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov Derkach Ulyane and a student of North Kazakhstan State University named after M.Kozybayev to Aubakirov Askhat. The second place was immediately shared by six participants of the Olympiad: E.Iglamova (KazATU named after S.Seifullin), Sultanova K. (ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov), Amangeldy B. (ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov), Kenzheva B. (ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov), Omar Y. (Pavlodar State University named after S. Toraigyrov), Kudabayeva A. (KazGUU named after M. Narikbayev). And the honorable third place was shared by nine students - Uzhgalova L. (ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov), Yergazina F. (Karaganda State University named after E. Buketov), Alimbekov A.(Pavlodar State Pedagogical University), Kazhmuhametova K. (ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov), Tazhikenova T. (ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov), Bilyalova V. (North Kazakhstan State University named after M. Kozybayev), Seylkhan A. (Medical University), Bayandy D. (ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov), Keldenbayeva Z. (Kh.A.Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University)
The results of the German language competition are as follows: the first place was taken by a student of ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov Dzhakupova Assel; the second place was shared by three participants - Temirbaev N. (ENU named after L.N.Gumilyov), Dvinianina M. (Pavlodar State University named after S. Toraigyrov), Dusekina K. (Pavlodar State Pedagogical University); and the third place was given to three participants - Amrenova G. (Eurasian Institute of Humanities), Balguzhin R. (ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov), Serik N. (ENU named after L.N. Gumilyov)
The closing part of the Olympiad, as well as the awarding of the winners of the Olympiad, according to the program of the competition, was scheduled on April 20, 2019. Final word was given by Sagimbayeva J.Y. - Head of the Department of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Philology, ENU after L.N.Gumilyov, and senior lecturers Zarkesheva A.E. and Nurpeisova A.Kh.
