Another Session of the Faculty’s Scientific Seminar

On December 24, 2020 the Faculty of Philology held a scientific seminar “Multimodal Text: Features of Use in Foreign Language Teaching Methodology” on the Microsoft Teams platform. The seminar was attended by the teaching staff, undergraduates and doctoral students of the university.

Reporter of the seminar was Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department Roza F. Zhusupova.

Concepts of “multimodality”, “multimodal text”, “methods of creating a multimodal text” and stages of working with such texts in the classroom in a distance learning environment were studied during the seminar. A multimodal text is characterized by genre diversity, contributing to the development of professionally significant competencies and research activities in students. Moreover, the multimodal text is aimed at enhancing the knowledge gained by trainees in the study of theoretical topics in the syllabus and related subject areas, improving the universal skills of oral and written foreign language information presented with visualization.

Various types of multimodal text were presented at the scientific seminar, and examples of its use in the lessons “Innovative Methods of Foreign Language Teaching” and “E-learning” for students of the educational program “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” were considered.

All materials of the seminar have their practical orientation and are especially useful for work in a distance learning environment.
