Exchange of Experience with Foreign English Teachers

On January 23, 2019, a scientific seminar on the theme “Teaching Tips in Making Students More Interested in English Classes” was held for local English teachers by the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department of the Faculty of Philology.

The main speakers of the seminar were foreign English teachers of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department ​​Israel Beyene Moges (Ethiopia) and Hose Umberto Baeza Estrada (USA).

The workshop was started by the department head Zh. Beisembayeva with a speech “An Important Video Phonetics Practical Phonetics”. Further, according to the program of the seminar, Israel Beyene Moges made a presentation on the theme “A Backpack for a XXI Century Student”. Israel arrived at the L.N. Gumilyov ENU within the “Bolashak” International Program and is currently teaching spoken English to students of the “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” specialty. He also takes an active part in the educational and pedagogical work of the department as part of the Students’ Club of Foreign Languages. His speech was of a discussions nature which allowed all the seminar participants to express their own opinions, share their experiences and discuss with the English speaker modern approaches in motivating the modern student of the English department.

The last speaker of the seminar was the foreign teacher Hose Umberto Baeza Estrada with a presentation “Motivating Students Across US, Canada, Mexico, China and Kazakhstan”. Jose Baeza is a polyglot, speaks six languages ​​(English, Spanish, French, Japanese, Chinese) with 16 years of experience, has certificates (has the right) to teach these languages ​​in high school. He has worked in Canada, USA, Mexico, China and is currently working as an English teacher at the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department.

The seminar was attended by teachers of the Faculty of Philology and the Faculty of International Relations. The Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department is planning more seminars for English teachers of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University and is inviting everyone to an active participation.
