On April 12, 2017, in the program article of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev «Course towards the future: modernization of Kazakhstan’s identity», tasks for the coming years were defined. One of the most important tasks is the transition of the Kazakh language to the new Latin alphabet. To support this initiative, on November 1, 2018, by the Department of Practical Kazakh Language of the Eurasian National University after L.N. Gumilyov at the Faculty of Philology was held а round table «The transition to the Latin alphabet - is the requirement of time».
The event was attended by the national scientific and practical center «Tіl-Kazyna» after Sh. Shayakhmetova executive director E.Tleshov, candidate of philology science A. Kabiyeva and the Department of Practical Kazakh Language, Professor K. Kulmanov, Professor, K. Tleshova Associate Professors Zh. Zhunisova, S. Isakulova, senior teachers S. Toibekova, D. Ilyasova and students.
E. Tleshov citing specific examples of the transition to the Latin alphabet, said that the process is a requirement of our time. «With the help of the modern converter, the epic novel «The Path of Abai» can be translated from the Cyrillic alphabet into the Latin alphabet in fifteen seconds. Today's time is the era of online books. Downloading any book through a mobile phone will not be difficult. Therefore, I do not think so that the transfer of literature, textbooks to the new Latin alphabet will be so difficult» he said.
And A. Kabiyeva provided students with a lot of information on spelling of the Kazakh language based on the new Latin alphabet, cited several examples. During the round table, students received concrete answers to their interest questions.
