Scientific-practical seminar for teachers of the German language: 'Multiliteracy' in the context of foreign language teaching"

The Department of Foreign Philology of the Faculty of Philology expands and strengthens international cooperation with the leading German organization SES - Senior Experten Service (Senior Expert Service). SES is the leading German organization that sends specialists and executives to projects in other countries on a voluntary basis. The basis of all SES projects is the principle of developing competencies, that is, the principle of assistance for self-help. The goal of the projects is to transfer knowledge and experience to improve the lives of others over the long term. As part of the SES project in Kazakhstan, PhD Renate Buerner-Kotzam arrived at the Department of Foreign Philology of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University for the third time to support the organization in conducting practical classes in the German language, as well as promoting the development of qualifications of teachers of the Department of Foreign Philology.

April 15, 2019 Renate Buerner-Kotzam held a scientific-practical seminar "Innovative forms of work in teaching foreign languages" for German teachers.

During the scientific and practical seminar “Foreign language teaching and cultural studies: 'Multiliteracy' in the context of foreign language teaching” Renate Buerner-Kotzam discussed with colleagues the concept of 'multiliteracy' in the context of learning a foreign language. Topics covered were:

relationship of language and culture

perception and reality and its relevance for intercultural understanding

visual literacy focusing on 'text-Bildflächen': text reading ability as a combination of intermittent text, images, graphics, etc. and its design.

linguistic landscapes: analyze the visualized language in urban spaces also as part of language policy and cultural history

creation: an approach that the wording, the wording and the thematic communication of the message affect the message and thus affect how reality is perceived. Many empirical studies and metaphorical expressions were jointly analyzed and discussed.

Renate Buerner-Kotzam visited German teachers at various language levels every day to give teachers feedback on didactic and methodology issues. At the same time he consults graduate students and undergraduates on their research projects and dissertations with literary texts of German writers in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and also discusses linguistic and stylistic problems.
