On January 18, 2019, the winners of the IELTS subject olympiad, which took place on January 17, 2019 according to the Plan of the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University at the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department of the Faculty of Philology, were solemnly awarded.
385 pupils of the 11th and 10th grades of secondary educational institutions of Astana and Akmola region (lyceums, gymnasiums, BIL, secondary schools) took part in the subject olympiad in English.
IELTS olympiad was held in two rounds. In the first round, the participants showed their skills in listening and reading authentic English materials, according to the results of which 121 participants were admitted to the second round: unprepared oral presentation (speaking) on the proposed topic on the IELTS international exam methodology.
The commission for receiving answers of the olympiad participants from among the teachers of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department identified the best results among the 121 participants of the 2nd round: 12 winners – owners of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Degree Diplomas of the L.N. Gumilyov ENU Rector Ye.Sydykov and 39 owners of honorary diplomas signed by the Head of the Vocational Guidance and Testing Center M.Aralkhanov.
The procedure of awarding the winners of the subject Olympiad was held on the basis of the branch of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department – School-gymnasium No. 22 of Astana City. School principal B.Zhunusova took an active part in organizing and conducting the procedure of awarding the winners in the school she heads.
Diplomas to winners and memorable gifts from the L.N. Gumilyov ENU administration (Encyclopedia “Lev Gumilyov”, published at the L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University named on the 100th anniversary of the author who created passionarone theory of ethnogenesis, and calendars with the university symbols) were presented by foreign teachers of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department Jose Umberto Baesa Estrada ( USA) and Esrael Beyene Moges (Ethiopia).
The winners of the Olympiad, who received diplomas of the 2nd and 3rd degrees, were students of the 11th grade of partner schools of the department – branches of the department: 3rd degree diploma of the ENU Rector was awarded to Ozaria Sultanova, an 11th grade student of Gymnasium # 22 of Astana City, and a diploma of the 2nd degree of the ENU Rector was awarded to Akhmet Baiseitov, an 11th grade student of Specialized School № 81 “Astana English School” of Astana City, who is also a partner of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department in professional placement and in the near future it will become a full-fledged branch of the department.
Several pupils of the 11th grade of the two branches of the department became holders of letters of appreciation from the university administration: Omar Almaz and Sokolov Leonid from gymnasium No. 22 and Amansugurov Rasul and Nurmaganbetov Yerasyl from specialized gymnasium No. 81 “Astana English School” in Astana.
A large number of winners and prize-winners of the IELTS Subject Olympiad arrived from the Bilim Innovations High School for Boys and Girls of Astana City.
Letters of thanks were also awarded to English teachers who prepared the winners and prize-winners of the English Olympiad help at the L.N. Gumilyov ENU.
Head of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department Zh.Beisembayeva once again congratulated all the winners of the Olympiad and invited them to study at the L.N. Gumilyov ENU on the educational program “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages” in 2019.
