On May 16, 2018, the teaching staff of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department held an online seminar on “EDUCATIONAL COOPERATION IN EFL CONTEXT” in cooperation with the English Department of the Omsk State Pedagogical University. The moderators of the online seminar were the heads of the departments of the two partner universities: candidate of philological sciences, associate professor Larisa Semeyn from the Russian side and Zhanna Beisembaeva from the Kazakh side.
Three speakers reported according to the agenda of the international seminar: Nicholas Budd, an OGPU instructor by the Fullbright program from the United States of America, with the report “The Use of the Classic American Literature in the Teaching of the Cultural Understanding of the American Society in the Mid. XX century”; M.A. Gulnar Orynbek, lecturer of ENU with her report “The EFL Students’ Beliefs Regarding English Language Learning in Different Kazakhstani Universities”; Dmitry Soloviev, candidate of pedagogical sciences, associate professor of OGPU with his report “Organization of Binary Lessons in Teaching English Grammar’.
All the reports were entirely devoted to discussing methods of teaching English, which allowed those present to ask the speakers a large number of questions. Of particular interest was the report of Dmitry Soloviev about the duet system of organizing classes, where two teachers, one of whom is a native speaker, conduct a joint lesson and use different teaching methods. The online seminar was concluded by the presentation of the senior lecturer of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department of the L.N. Gumilyov ENU Dariga Anasheva with her presentation of "The Crucial XXI Century Skills in the English Language Teaching" on the results of the refresher course at the British Embassy in Almaty.
After the presentation, the speaker handed out to all participants of the seminar handouts from the British Embassy. The initiator of this online seminar was the senior lecturer of the Foreign Languages Theory and Practice Department of ENU, M.A. Shynar Suleimenova. In November 2017, as a member of the ENU delegation, this lecture left for Russian to have a professional training course in OSPU on modern teaching technologies at university.
This seminar is a continuation of the cooperation of English teachers of the two English departments. Based on the results of the online seminar, the two department heads agreed to conduct another network methodical event involving their Spanish and French colleagues.
