“New approaches to teaching the Russian language and literature in educational institutions of Kazakhstan in the context of the updated educational content”

The purpose of the webinar is to discuss new approaches to teaching the Russian language and literature in educational institutions of Kazakhstan in the context of the updated educational content and to share the experience of teaching the Russian language and literature within the updated content in secondary education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The webinar was devoted to the formation of functional literacy of the individual, including reading literacy, the procedure of organizing and conducting formative assessment, the usage of various teaching methods and techniques and the analysis of the modern textbooks for Russian language and literature.

As it is known, the updated educational content is a revision of the model of secondary education, its structure and content, as well as it is a revision of approaches and methods of teaching and educating, the introduction of a new system for evaluating students’ achievements. The entire range of measures within the updated educational content is aimed at creating an educational space that is favorable for the formation of an intellectual, physically and spiritually developed person. The new model of education imposes new requirements in the preparation of teachers: to change the goals and methods of pedagogical activity; to find innovative approaches to teaching; to change the software and methodological support of the educational process; to new ways and forms of evaluating educational achievements of students.

The speech of PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics Galieva Bakhyt Khasenovna was devoted to the formation of reading literacy of students, since the reading skill is an important skill for life in society, which contributes to the development of personality. The speaker drew attention to the text-centric principle of teaching, and gave examples of tasks for evaluating reading literacy.

Leading researcher of the National Academy named after Y. Altynsarin, PhD, Associate Professor Karimova Baglan Tusupovna shared with the participants the results of an online study on the subject of teachers' knowledge of methods and techniques of formative assessment in the educational process. She elaborated how to improve the effectiveness of the lesson with the help of FA.

What pedagogical skills should a modern teacher possess, how to achieve an interdependent reality and much more, the participants of the webinar learned from a level 1 coach, a teacher of the highest category of the school-gymnasium No. 22 in Nur-Sultan city Dyusembekova Raikhan Kanatovna.

The Russian language and literature teacher-moderator of the NIS with chemical and biological direction in Pavlodar city Auzhanova Galiya Gabdullinovna focused on a clear and specific formulation of educational goals to achieve results, as well as on the example of a short-term plan of the Russian language lesson: “Climate. Weather and seasons” in grade 7. She demonstrated all the stages of the target setting by types of speech activity, descriptors, tasks and assessment criteria.

The following speech and presentation by Kamila Abdrakhmanova, a third-year student from a group RF-32, who presented the structure of the textbook and its content, was devoted to the analysis of the updated school textbook edited by Z.K. Sabitova and A.R. Beisembayeva. Noting the peculiarities of structuring the educational material, the student drew attention to the implementation of the content of the textbook topic. The implementation itself begins with goal setting in the form of an epigraph and questions that allow you to understand and determine their importance at the initial stage of the lesson. Kamila also took notes on learning strategies and illustrated the fragments of tasks and exercises aimed at forming students' critical thinking.

In the context of globalization and modernization of education in general, the main task is to develop and master new approaches, pedagogical technologies and the formation of a new pedagogical mentality.

The webinar that was organized at the initiative of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics in the format of a dialogue between scientists, university professors and teachers-practitioners with public-humanitarian direction from comprehensive secondary schools allowed to discuss new approaches to teaching the Russian language and literature in the system of integrated education which aims at the development of creative language personality, education of conscious attitude to language as a means of communication and linguistic capital, promoting successful socialization of students.
